World Knowledge Forum 2012 will suggest new solutions for global crisis

In the year 2012, the whole world is standing at the great turning point. As political powers are to be transferred by election in over thirty major countries around the world during this single year of 2012, the new leadership is put to the test. The uncertainty is growing as the global economic condition seems unpredictable. Nobody knows whether the insoluble European economic crisis may lead to the breakdown of the eurozone or to the worldwide recession. The leadership vacuum clearly means both political and economic chaos. In the World Knowledge Forum which stepped up as an exemplary business forum in Asia, we will seek for a solution to overcome the crisis under the theme of ‘The Great Breakthrough: New Solutions for Global Crisis.’

This year’s theme is ‘The Great Breakthrough: New Solutions for Global Crisis.’ Five pillars of the solution for crisis breakthrough are New Growth, Leadership, Happiness, Integrity, and Creativity. The WKF will bring promising intellectuals around the world to a table for discussion on many intriguing issues. At this year’s WKF, Jim Yong Kim, President of the World Bank, and Condoleezza Rice who served as the 66th United Sates Secretary of State will appear as key note speakers at the 13th WKF. Also, the WKF has invited former European leaders including former Spanish Prime Minister Jose Maria Aznar, former President of Germany Christian Wulff, former Prime Minister of the Netherlands Willem Kok, and former Irish Prime Minister John Bruton. Global academic luminaries such as Princeton University Professor Paul Krugman and New York University Professor Nouriel Roubini will also come to Korea to grace the occasion with their presences. The global leaders including Zong Qinghou, founder and Chairman of Hangzhou Wahaha Group, will be also at the forum to provide his unique business philosophy.

In the first track which covers the big title of ‘New Growth’, the WKF has invited the world’s renowned business leaders to hear their thoughts on how the world economy is going to be. In a session entitled ‘Global CEO Round Table’, our list of the distinguished panels includes: Herbjorn Hansson, Chairman and CEO of Nordic American Tankers Limited, Mika Vehviläinen, President and CEO of Finnair Plc, James Murren, Chairman and CEO of MGM Resorts International, Zong Qinghou, founder and Chairman of Hangzhou Wahaha Group and Esko Aho, Executive Vice President of NOKIA. They are going to share their opinions on pessimism and optimism on the world economy. In a session to be held under the theme of ‘Economic Outlook 2013,’ our esteemed panelists include: Anthony Scaramucci, Managing Partner of SkyBridge Capital, Rhee Chang-yong, Chief Economist of the Asian Development Bank, Tyler Cowen, Professor of Economics at George Mason University and Dominique Strauss-Kahn, former Managing Director of the IMF.

The second track which covers the big theme of ‘Leadership’ will offer you a precious opportunity to learn about how to weather the ongoing eurozone crisis from former European leaders. Former European leaders including Dominique Strauss-Kahn, former Managing Director of the IMF, and Christian Wulff, former Federal President of Germany, will be participating as panelists in a session entitled ‘Listening to European Leaders: How to Overcome Eurozone Crisis.’

The subject of the third track is ‘Happiness.’ The two prominent speakers - Shawn Achor, an expert in happiness and human potential, also known for his publication Happiness Advantage and bestselling author Todd Buchholz who wrote Rush will show up in a session to be held under the theme of ‘Debate on Happiness: Equation of Work, Success, and Happiness.’

The fourth track will cover ‘Integrity.’ In a session entitled ‘CFA: Developing Financial Integrity’, James Kruger, General Counsel of Macquarie Group Limited, Badreddine Ouali, CEO of Vermeg, John Rogers, President and CEO of CFA Institute, and Yeung Chin, CIO of Pyramis Global Advisors, will participate as our distinguished panels to provide ample cases and practices to boost your understanding of ‘Integrity.’

Lastly, the theme of the fifth track is ‘Creativity.’ In a session entitled ‘Dreaming One Asia through R&D Network’, our prominent panelists will seek ways to establish “One Asia” through R&D networks. The list of panelists who will attend this session includes Zakri Abdul Hamid, Joint Chairman of MIGHT and Science Advisor to the Prime Minister, and Wiboon Shamsheun, Vice-Minister of Science and Technology of Thailand.

The WKF has provided the platform for debates on direction and role of Asia during the economic crisis over last three years and has been growing to become the largest and greatest platform in Asia for discussion of the global economy and business. This October is going to be filled with knowledge which evokes your idea and insight toward your future.
